WHAT IS THE BIKE LOAN SCHEME?
Getting around Bristol by bike is cheaper, quicker and easier, whatever type of student you are. Cycling rates have doubled in the last decade, let’s double that again!

The Bike Loan Scheme is an initiative which aims to keep you active and also helps you to reduce your impact on the planet. With the scheme, you hire a bike to use for the year, which must be returned to The Students’ Union at the end of each academic year.
The bike loan includes a D lock to keep your bike secured and a set of lights to make sure you are safe and visible on the roads.
What’s the cost? Free!
We are so pleased to announce that as part of our cost of living support for students we are now offering the bikes for FREE, whereas they used to cost £70 a year. So you will just need to pay the £40 deposit before collecting the bike which is a refundable amount. There are 86 bikes available, five of which are available for short term use (up to two weeks) from the Centre for Sport.
We would also recommend buying a helmet and high visibility clothing to keep safe while cycling.
How do I get involved?
Due to unprecedented demand for this survey, we have temporarily paused request for the bike loans scheme. We will look to reopen requests when we have worked through all current requests.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please email su.bikeloan@uwe.ac.uk
