We asked UWE students what they do to look after their mental health, this is what they said….

This World Mental Health Day (Thursday 10 October), we would like to thank you for engaging with The Students’ Union and telling us your top tips for supporting your mental wellbeing. We spoke to hundreds of students at Frenchay, Glenside and Bower, giving out water bottles, stress balls, free tea, mindfulness books and other goodies. Glenside and Bower were treated to free massages!
Sleep

- If you need a nap take a nap
- Take regular breaks if you need them
- Make sure you are getting a good night’s sleep
Surround yourself with family and friends

- Go and grab a coffee with your friends
- Speak to people you know and trust
- Surround yourself with positive people
- Do something you enjoy
- Be sociable, have a laugh
Speak, don’t stay silent

- Speak to people you know and trust
- Let yourself have a cry if you need it
- Go and seek help and advice
- Call your family if you need a chat, people are always just at the end of the phone
Stay Active

- Get out into nature
- Take a walk
- Go for a bike ride
- Do something to get your blood pumping, join a sport or club
- Dance around your room
- Do yoga
Go exploring

- Get out into nature
- Hop on a random bus and see where it takes you and explore that place
- Go to your favourite places
- Travel
Do something you love

- Go to your favourite restaurant
- Do your favourite activity
- Watch your favourite film
- Listen to music, which makes you happy
Get creative

- Scrapbooking
- Drawing
- Writing poetry
- Try something new
Meditate

- Yoga
- Switch your phone off
Eat well

- Cook a nice meal
- Go out for dinner
- Eat your favourite foods
- Bake a cake
Treat yo self

- Retail therapy
- Enjoy your favourite foods
- Visit somewhere you’ve always wanted to go
Share the Love

- Love yourself
- Show kindness to yourself and others
- Smile at strangers
