Multiple candidates disqualified from The Leadership Race.
The Leadership Race at The Students’ Union at UWE operates in a fair and democratic manner, where all candidates are governed by a clear set of policies, procedures, protocols and election rules.
Unfortunately, this year the election rules have been breached by a number of candidates, resulting in The Students’ Union at UWE taking the difficult decision to disqualify the candidates from this year’s Leadership Race.
2 candidates for President.
1 candidate for VP Education.
1 candidate for International Students' Officer.
The candidates were given the opportunity to appeal the decision to the external Returning Officer as per the elections process. 2 candidates appealled and submitted evidence and 2 candidates did not appeal. The 2 appeals were reviewed by the Returning Officer along with the evidence submitted by the Deputy Returning Officer team, following that review of the evidence and the original decision was upheld.
Regrettably, this means that any votes cast for these candidates will now not be eligible for consideration. As The Students’ Union uses the single transferable voting system, we would like to reassure any affected students that their next preferences will be taken into account.
