This March, the student-led Sustainability Committee ran their campaign, Let’s Talk Trash. This explored how we can reduce our waste across five different areas: food, fashion, recycling, plastic, and zero-waste living.

Vanique Kruger, your elected Sustainability Officer, would like to say a big thank you to everyone who got involved, in particular to our student Sustainability Committee for their ideas and creativity in making it happen!

We’ve got three final tips for you to reduce your waste and make a difference.

  1. Look for fruit and veg that’s package-free, yes even if you go to a big traditional shop, see if you can buy certain fruits and veggies lose!
  2. If you need new clothing, consider second-hand or upcycled. Yes, we all love the feeling of new clothes, but upcycling something you already own or buying second-hand reduces your environmental footprint.
  3. There is no denying the fact that we all have food waste. Whether it’s a teabag from your daily cuppa, or fruit and veg cores and peeling, pop them in your food waste bin. This avoids the waste going to landfills, where it releases carbon, and instead, it can be turned into bio-gas to power our homes!

Don’t forget the impact you can make by just making a small change daily.
