British Army Presentation Evening
The New Year started off with a special invitation to the British Army’s Presentation Evening. It was an amazing evening filled with inspiring messages and people.
We were very honoured to have been invited to the University of Greenwich last month, by Professor Jane Harrington (Vice-Chancellor, University of Greenwich). During the visit, we met our friends at The Students' Union and had the honour of having lunch with the Vice-Chancellor and Students’ Union CEO and officers.
Hall of fame up!
Following the 2019 Black History Month programme, The Students' Union is pleased to bring you the Hall of Fame exhibition, which celebrates the successes of some black students, staff and alumni of UWE Bristol. This project sets out to promote recognition and representation beyond the annual Black History Month.
I am delighted to confirm that the Hall of Fame is now up in D-Block with information on all of the nominees. I am really proud of all of the work that has gone into this and would encourage everyone to check it out!
BBC interview (social video and news article)
Following the launch of the Hall of Fame, I had the privilege of being featured on BBC News and BBC Radio discussing the importance of recognition and representation.
Breaking Barriers (University of Greenwich)
It was such an honour speaking at the ‘Breaking Barriers’ event held at the University of Greenwich, which was designed to encourage people of colour to get involved in leadership roles. Myself and Jane Ojiakor (VP Education) spoke on a student leaders panel right after the Chancellor of the University of Greenwich, who is the UK's first mixed-race Cabinet Minister and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Greenwich, (previously UWE Bristol’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor).
We had a very successful Refreshers' Fair, with stallholders from sports clubs, societies, UWE Bristol, and commercials. Over 1,200 attendees across all campuses including new international students and Glenside January intakes attended the Fair. Societies and sports club sign-ups increased by 44% in January and we received various positive messages from both stallholders and students.
Campus Security (our unsung heroes)
I would like to give a special shout out to our campus securities who work so hard to ensure that the campus is a physically safe space for everyone to live, work and/or study in.
Prior to the launch of UWE Bristol’s 2030 strategy, to ensure that the student voice is heard, a students’ consultation session was held in January regarding the strategy 2030. I want to remind you that as your Students’ Union President, I am committed to improving students experience here at UWE Bristol. I want to meet as many students as possible, so feel free to drop by at the office or catch me at our satellite campuses during one of my pop-ups, contact me via social media or email and/or send me an invitation to your society events or meet up!
You can contact me via email@example.com and @TheSUPresident on Facebook and Twitter.
