This week, NHS England has launched a brand new advert campaign to encourage more men to become nurses… And your Glenside Campus Officer helped to make it happen!
The campaign was created after a recent NHS study found that only 10% of nurses in the UK are male.
Will Malcher, Glenside Campus Officer, said: “This wasn't such a shock to me since there are only 5 male students in my tutor group here at UWE Bristol.
“In my first year of my Adult Nursing BSc, I had the opportunity to become part of an ambassadorship of males in the nursing field, with participants ranging from student nurses, right up to Chief Executives of hospitals. The group is run by a dedicated team at the NHS England headquarters in London. Each year we have a summit and discuss ways in which we can change these statistics to make the field more diverse. These meetings have led to many campaigns, including this brand new video."
“The video is one of the first ever recruitment videos to encourage men to consider a career in nursing with the NHS. I had the pleasure of working with MullenLowe Group and NHS England on this campaign and joined them in London as an expert speaker to show ways in which the advert could focus on different aspects of a nurse’s day-to-day actions.
“I am super happy with the final results and so proud of all colleagues and the teams who put this video together.
“I think it’s time we changed the statistics. It’s time to diversify the field of nursing and break down perceptions of what nurses are.”
The advert shows the amazing work that male nurses do on a daily basis: from looking after new born babies, to treating victims of street crime. Check it out and see what you think!
