About me 

Hi, I am one of your Democratic Procedures Officers. I was a Democratic Procedure Officer in the 21/22 academic year and look to continue my work in a role I truly enjoyed.

 

Democracy is something I am extremely interested in and it concerns me when there is a low turnout in elections. In the 21/22 academic year I have worked with various teams across The Students’ Union to increase student participation in democratic elections which impact student engagement and participation across all three UWE sites.

 

What am I working on? 

• Seeking to bring the student council meetings to all the campuses as they are usually Frenchay focused, and I feel that this disenfranchises students at Glenside and Bower Ashton.
• Facilitate the student council meetings and allow elected and selected representatives the chance to quiz the Presidents on their manifesto promises. We receive Presidents’ reports in advance and questions that arise from those are put to the Presidents. I was effective at this role last year and I would like to carry on the work I started.

About me 

Hi, last year I was your LGBT+ Officer and Vice-Chair of the Welfare Committee, and now I'm one of your DPOs!

 

As a charity trustee and Chair of Hendon Labour Party, I've had the honour of upholding the democracy and governance of small and large organisations in the UK and abroad. As a board member of ADHD Europe, I completely rewrote its constitution with the aim of providing more transparency and engagement for our members.

 

What am I working on? 

• I'll bring this experience, and these values, to the role of DPO; working with the other DPOs to review the union constitution and democratic processes in consultation with students to make sure we're keeping up with the best practice in other SUs.
• I know how important it is that the union represents *all* students, and often that means balancing people's needs and priorities. I've had plenty of experience making sure everyone is heard, both in The Students' Union, the charity sector, and in party politics. I want to make sure that EVERY voice is heard and that we make union democracy accessible, available, and engaging for everyone.

About me 

Hi, I am an MSc Urban Planning student. I have previously been the Lead Department Representative for Architecture and the Built Environment and also on the student council.

 

What am I working on?  

• I am interested in governance and holding the presidents to account.
