TRANS WELFARE OFFICER
CECIL MCKIE (HE/HIM)
Trans Welfare Officer
About me
I will continue my work for the trans community within the University.
I am a queer, gender nonconforming transgender man and as such I hold the issues of the wider trans community close to my heart. I believe the University needs to put the needs of its trans students at the forefront; students should feel safe, loved and protected at all times. And on from that: even within the trans community there is discrimination towards other minorities, and I will be an open ear and a voice of change for students who feel their needs aren’t being met - particularly sexual minorities, minority and BIPOC students.
I am passionate about activism, I regularly take part in marches for causes I believe in and care deeply about subjects such as civil rights and sustainability. I also work as President of the LGBT+ Society at UWE to raise money for LGBT+ charities through LGBT+ events. As an Environmental Science student I make it my priority to keep everything I work on as sustainable as possible.
What am I working on?
I am a person who cares about others; the wellbeing of those around me is my top priority.
